On April 12, the AOL List ran a story contributed by a reporter for a major New York newspaper. It exposed a gaping security hole in which hackers could obtain an AOL user's credit card number if they succeeded in obtaining the user's password. AOL staffers immediately contacted the paper, complaining that they hadn't meant for the information--which included quotes from security chief Tatiana Gau--to appear on The AOL List. Under pressure from his editor, the reporter e-mailed us and requested that the story be removed from the archive.
